Jennifer & Greg

A Fall Wedding in July (only in Virginia)

On Saturday, July 26th, Jennifer and Greg Quaile made Virginia history, having an outdoor ceremony at Norfolk Botanical Garden, with the perfect Fall weather…in July! Nothing was shy of perfection as the breeze blew, butterflies flew and Jennifer floated through Butterfly Garden carrying a bouquet of Stargazers and hydrangeas by Daevid. The intimate ceremony, accompanied by a flutist, took place on the water in one of the most secluded and ethereal gardens on site.

The cocktail hour followed on the Baker Hall Terrace at Norfolk Botanical Garden, guests savored hors d’ ouvres and authentic sweet water from Sweetwater Catering. As guests entered the reception, they were greeted by some of the largest and most fragrant centerpieces of Stargazer Lilies I have ever seen. Pool and shades of fuchsia and pink brightened the room adding to the cool breeze that blew through Baker Hall. Jennifer and Greg personalized their wedding in several ways. A groomsman played an acoustic guitar while a bridesmaid sang a song Greg had written for Jennifer for their first dance. They cut custom made pies in various flavors as opposed to cake. Guests danced to the music of Phun Doctors and when everyone thought it couldn’t be a better night, the groom and his men took everyone back to the late 90’s. The groom and two of his groomsmen had been in a band together in college. They warmed up, borrowed two of the band’s guitars and rocked to three songs they’d not played together in nearly ten years. It was definitely a memorable night.
Jennifer and Greg were the most mellow, easy-going couple I have ever worked with and I wish them all the happiness life can bring. Congratulations!

Rachal & Erick

Rachal and Erick were married yesterday! They exchanged vows before friends and family at the Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront hotel. Cocktails, dinner and dancing followed in the Peacock Ballroom. The setting and service were excellent as usual but the couple were the stars of the day.

I started planning with Rachal while Erick was deployed so we spent a lot of time together before I met the groom. Everyone agrees that the bride is a very kind and generous person and Erick is her perfect match. I wasn't sure if he would like the things that we chose while he was away but his genuine reply was always, "whatever she wants" - I LOVE it!

I was honored to help Rachal select her dress and veil and provide the flowers for the wedding. She opted for shades of purple and lots of texture.

*Professional photos coming soon!

The wedding was intimate and filled with warmth. Many guests made toasts to the couple. In their response, Erick and Rachal mentioned how grateful they were for each person present. Everyone spent lots of time on the dance floor. It was a great night and I wish them every happiness!

Erika & Johnny

No matter how many weddings I coordinate some moments always seem to bring tears to my eyes. Erika and Johnny had a beautiful wedding with some of those touching moments.
Erika, in her delicate ivory wedding dress needed her "something old", a pretty lace handkerchief, to catch her tears of joy. I don't think there was a dry eye at the ceremony as she spoke her vows. A lighter moment was when Kiyanna, the flower girl, took more time getting down the aisle than the bride as she carefully placed each petal along the way! Violinist Jim Edwards, always the professional, continued to play until she reached her place.

Their reception was magical, a beautifully draped ceiling with twinkling lights, the couple's names illuminating the white dance floor, centerpieces of white branches hung with crystals and votives, and splashed with red orchids, all created a dramatic effect. At one point Johnny was dancing with his mom and at the edge of the dance floor Erika stood watching them, gently leaning in close to her father totally absorbed in the moment. After the special dances Erika changed into a simple but elegant ivory silk dress. The DJ got everyone to let their hair down and even stepped in when the Mistress of Ceremony, a family member, got cold feet. Guests danced until the very end.

The ceremony took place in Renaissance Court and the reception followed in Rose Garden Hall, both at Norfolk Botanical Garden.

Erika and Johnny each have wonderful families and I truly believe that both families have been blessed to be united by such a very special couple. They gave us all so many moments to treasure. I wish them all the best for their future.

Chandra & Stephen

Chandra and Stephen were married yesterday in a beautiful ceremony at First Presbyterian Church in Norfolk. The statuesque bride wore ivory organza and lace. The bridesmaids were modern in short pink dresses.

I met Chan over a year ago. She hired me, and then moved to Texas! I didn't see her again for a year. We kept in touch via phone and e-mail (her e-mails are the best)! She has SO much personality, which you will see once I get the professional photos, and it comes through in everything she does. From the way she tells the story of how she and Stephen met, to the flip-flop poem she wrote, to the couple's first dance - she is a fun girl!

Over the course of planning a color scheme and inspiration developed. The bride wanted a nautical feel and chose navy to accent the pink of the maids dresses. Chandra made the table numbers, donation cards, and other signage. We provided the linen, floral design, sand dollars, and event production.

Everyone had a great time at the cocktail hour on the deck of the Lesner Inn. Their staff was wonderful as usual and the reception went off flawlessly! Roger Cruz, With Astro DJ played a mix of music and had the crowd dancing and singing along!

I can't wait to see the professional images from Eleise Theuer. She is so great at capturing the emotion and the details!

It has been a blast working with this bride. Stephen and Chandra are so gorgeous and happy together! Ashley, Stephanie and I wish the couple every happiness.

Christine & Will

Christine and Will were married on Saturday, July 5 at Francis Asbury United Methodist Church. A reception followed at Cavalier Beach Club. This is the joining of two fantastic families that have been friends since before 'the kids' started dating in high school.

Their colors were Fuchsia and Green! Christine, an Engineer and self-professed Type A, made many of the items for her wedding. From the save the date cards to welcome baskets in pink beach totes, trimmed with striped ribbon. The amenities included local favorites Jody's popcorn and Suffolk peanuts, plus homemade chocolates and custom Koozies and Frisbees. The whole feel of the event was beach inspired. There were multiple parties over the July 4th holiday weekend.

Christine's signature pink, green, and white striped grosgrain ribbon was seen everywhere from the welcome basket, to the Best Wishes containers, and cinched the cocktail tables. Guest table linens were apple green and green apples filled glass vases topped with vibrant pink arrangements that included hydrangea and peonies. Cocktail tables sported floating Gerber daisies and Bear Grass or alternately silver lanterns - all were surrounded by shells. The color scheme was carried out in the wedding party attire.

Love the Green polka dot bow ties guys!

Other lovely touches included a scrapbook of the couple's journey together on a heritage table (family photos), the programs made by the bride, and an heirloom pin from the groom's family that the bride wore on her bouquet.
The food was great and guests danced all night to the sounds of The Gentlemen & Their Lady. A monogrammed ice sculpture and yummy cake were finishing touches!

I was thrilled to be a part of this event and wish the couple and their families all the best. Congratulations!

My IT bag

I must gush! I was looking for THE summer handbag over at Etsy and found so many cute things including:

This bold graphic bag from daphnenen

Then I found this adorable pouch wristlet from retrofied.

had to have it! bought it!

Then... I found these reversible hobo bags, also from retrofied. The patterns have it all - bold, graphic, colorful, and modern retro. They would make a great bridesmaid gift!

love them! bought this one!

How do YOU Etsy?

Ever since Eleise Theuer introduced me to Etsy I have been hooked! I generally shop by catergory but I am always afraid that I am missing something that is 'misplaced'. I now find myself looking at shops that recently made sales to see what motivated the last buyer!

But I absolutely love paper and earrings so I always look there. I'm off to the hunt. I'll let you know if I find anything wedding related!

Happy Independence Day!

happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthdayyyy Americaaaa... Happy Birthday toYou!!!!!
