Real Wedding: Mack & Kendra Pt. I

Mack and Kendra were married in a tent on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Their wedding reception followed at Aqua at Bay Creek Marina. They were surrounded by about 50 close friends.

The day was rainy - and beautiful.



The arch was covered in greenery and hanging tealights. White starfish were used on the arch and lanterns lining the aisle.


I created Kendra's bouquet from White Cymbidium orchids and mini Calla Lilies with accents of seashells.

We used a heater and sofas in the tent so that guests could relax before and after the ceremony. The sound of rain, the flickering candle light, and harp strains all contributed to a very intimate atmosphere.

The dreaded airwall and how to deal with it!

When your reception does not use all of the space in a ballroom or banquet space, it is often sub-divided using an airwall. I have to say that most are unattractive, though some venues actually upholster them to match the walls!

There are several ways to deal with this or any other unsightly area!

For this lounge we used pipe and drape - commonly available through your designer or rental company.

Fabrics give complete coverage and create whatever atmosphere you like. In this case our client wanted a tented feel.

The most cost effective solution is lighting in many instances. For this client, we made the wall a 'feature' for the cost of 3 gobos!

Of course you could also opt to use the whole space. In our next post we'll share some ideas to keep the space from feeling too large!

Hand knit items are so beautiful! They are functional and add a personal touch to any wedding!

This shawl was knit for the bride by her mother Nancy B. She is an amazing knitter (and mom). This is sure to be a treasured keepsake for the lovely bride!
